Redesign Your Daytime Routines for a Healthy Oral Microbiome
Build a consistent regimen for your mouth health
By sticking to a throughout-the-day regimen, you can help your gums, teeth, and beneficial mouth bacteria flourish. Here’s how:
Keep water near you all day, so you remember to drink often.
Eat lunch, ideally a veggie-rich meal, like a green salad topped with grilled chicken. Vegetables are rich in alkaline, which can help balance out the acid levels in your mouth.
Drink water, which will help rinse food particles and bacteria off your teeth. Try to avoid soda (even diet), which can wear down tooth enamel.
Rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash (alcohol can lead to dry mouth). Then wait at least a half hour before eating or drinking again. Consider asking a holistic dentist to recommend the best product for you.
If hungry later in the afternoon, go for a low-carb snack, like fresh veggie sticks with hummus or a hard-boiled egg. Follow it with a drink of water.
Chew sugar-free gum (sweetened with xylitol or erythritol). Chewing gum stimulates the production of saliva, which will help to neutralize harmful acids in your mouth.
